Happy Maps ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Happy Maps mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Happy Maps:

• Account information: Your email address, username, display name, and age when you register.
• Nightlife intentions: The bar or venue you indicate you plan to visit on a given night.
• Location data: We use your device's location only to display nearby bars on the map. We do not store or track your real-time location.
• Friends and social data: Friend connections you make within the app.
• School verification: If you choose to verify a .edu email address to join a school group, we store that email address and verification status.
• Usage data: Basic app usage information such as crash reports and performance data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Show you which bars are trending and how many people plan to attend tonight.
• Display where your friends are planning to go.
• Send you account-related emails such as password resets and email verifications.
• Improve the app's performance and user experience.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

Happy Maps is built on a privacy-first principle. We do not:

• Track your real-time location.
• Sell your personal data to third parties.
• Share your information with advertisers.
• Store your precise GPS coordinates.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data with:

• Supabase: Our database and authentication provider, used to store your account and app data securely.
• Resend: Our email delivery provider, used solely to send transactional emails such as password resets and verification codes.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time through the Settings screen in the app. Upon deletion, all your data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

6. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which employs industry-standard encryption. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

7. Children's Privacy

Happy Maps is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Not Affiliated with UCLA

Happy Maps is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by UCLA or any other university. School group features are independently operated by Happy Maps.
